Roman Toaster
Bella! I found this toaster at the flea market in Rome, on a wild adventure with a trio of tour guides, one of which had been a customer in New York with her sister and friend who all bought really nice toasters from me -- and boy, did she pound me on my price!
A couple of years ago, I'd been lucky enough to spend a week in Napoli in the excellent company of a gentleman who was born there, now living in London with his wife with whom I went to college, and our good friends from Paris and Portland, all for the first showing of Matteo's art in his home town. Wow, what a marvelous time. Good food and good friends.
At the end of the trip, I took the train from Naples to Rome with an extra day to see my customer Carla who offered to show me around Rome, with two friends who were also tour guides with whom we shared a glass of Pro Seco and lovely lunch...and a trip to the flea market!
This is the Mondial Fire toaster, with a pearlescent paint job still in pretty good condition and chrome over the top and narrow sides. It works just fine, and comes with two beautifully designed clamps to hold a slice or sandwich. There's a thumbscrew on the bottom to open a large door for crumb cleaning. And, best of all are the handles in three-dimensional zig-zag design. Thank you Italy. The cord is a woven black and white herringbone with molded plastic fittings. Need a toaster to use in Rome?
